A carefully considered extension to a 1923 beach bach, designed for a young family who loves the charm and relaxed vibe of the original building and the relaxed coastal lifestyle but had outgrown the aging building. In true tradition of coastal baches, the home grows organically through a series of lean-to additions, creating a layered, informal composition. The design introduces three pitched roof volumes that bring light, and a sense of spaciousness to family living, while remaining respectful of the original bach’s scale and character.

The extension is expressed as lightweight, timber-clad volumes that complements the modest scale and vernacular of the original structure. Pyramid-shaped ceiling forms and deep reveals provide layered shadows, creating a feeling of openness and framing views of the sky and surrounding coastal context. Crafted natural timber finishes and carefully proportioned details reinforce the relaxed, beachy aesthetic while introducing a fun, calm spatial quality
